Easter service at MCA was great. Glad to be apart of a great church. Afterwards was spent with family and several friends. Mark did an amazing prime rib with all the yummy trimmings. Rachel (a sweet friend) made the most delicious desserts. The rest of us stuffed our faces!!
It brought back so many memories when I was a kid. Man, my mom knew how to celebrate though her gift of making FOOD during holidays. She didn't just cook the normal ham or pot roast, but she's throw in a few dozen of home-made tortillas, enchiladas, spanish rice, and carne asada. I know....It's making me hungry too. I also remember my parents would "try" and sneak in our Easter baskets in the hopes we'd believe the Easter bunny delivered them. Well, unless the Easter bunny was a 6'0 dark Mexican man.....my brothers and I had a pretty good hunch it was our dad.
It's funny now that I have kids of my own..... I'm too busy to try and persuade them there's an Easter bunny. I mean seriously....every basket I've ever bought them ends up in the trash a week later, that HORRIBLE green fake grass is in every room, and I'm stepping on half eaten chocolate bunnies everywhere. So, this year I took my oldest daughter Braxtyn with me and I had her help me out. I asked her, "What is something your sisters and you NEED?" Without hesitancy she said, "Socks mom....socks!!" These seem to be the "Zweifel Family's Most Wanted" items. And, believe me....sure enough the girls were stoked about NEW SOCKS!! Easy to please....right? I also threw in a few chocolate bunnies (Couldn't resist).
I ended the evening taking the girls to watch "Heaven's Gates, Hell's Flames" last night. Muldoon Community A/G did a great job. The sanctuary was packed, but I had my eyes fixed on one little 6 year old girl. Her eyes gleamed every time she saw the shiny scenes and props of Heaven, but they also were quick to close when the scenes of hell came on. At the end of the play, she asked her mom if she thought "her own" name was in the "book of life." The mom said, "the only way you know is if you've asked Jesus to be the leader of your life." The little girl replied, " oh, well.... I've already done that mom. You know that!" I said, "I know Macy, I just wanted to be sure you knew." That made my night!
What also made my night was seeing 70 plus people move forward to the receive Jesus for the first time or recommit. From little kids, teenagers, to the elderly .....my heart was moved.
This week is Alaska's Ministry Conference and looking forward to seeing good friends, meeting new ones, and receiving all that God has in store for me.
